Locks
Locks are individual ringlets of intertwined natural hair. The locking process varies from 6 to 12 months. Locking time depends on the natural coil. The smaller the coil pattern (fine to normal hair) the shorter the locking time. The larger the coil pattern (normal to coarse hair) the longer the locking time. There are various stages of growth and restructuring that the locks will undergo during this period.
Phase I - Pre lock stage, 1st month to 3rd month
Phase II - Sprouting stage; 4th month to 12th month
Phase III - Growing stage; 12th month to 18th month
Phase IV - Maturation stage; 2nd year to 4th year
Phase V - Atrophy stage; complete process

Need an Up-Do
I have just been invited to an After-Five affair here in Atlanta. My 1st After-Five event in a very long time. This event has made me realize how far away I am in my plans for my life, since I moved to Georgia.
I have the LBD, shoes and the jewerly, plus the confidence to make this work for me. My only concern is my hair is not locked, it has some buds. Wonder what my Up-do will look like!

I got Buds, Yeah!
I have buds, confirmed by a long time locker (he is 4 years in). KJ was giving me the "WTF" face, it has only been two weeks or so since I TST'ed my hair.
I have some buds not a lot, but a beginning.

Oh my fuzzy hair!
I lurk and will continue to lurk other ladies who have Loc journeys on the Internet.
I love Fotki, I have learned many things about the Lock process, such as you will have fuzzy hair and ugly hair days.
It is up to you on how you handle such days, I told a few who thought they were ready to lock to be sure, because they clearly do not have the patience for the journey.
How you handle these things will determine how committed you are to the process.
I have had doubts about the size I have, the number of locs, will they get thicker, will my hair loc fast or slowly.

Digital Camera Broken!
I was planning to add pictures today, but my camera has finally died. So I will do my best to describe the twists as they are today October 8th. My babies have been in the shower twice this week and spritzed every time I want to arranged them differently.
The babies are thicker than last week, I have had some unraveling. I generally have been very pleased so far. My scalp is just a little itchier, a couple of flakes. Just doing all I can to keep from causing a problem. I think that I may need to keep more moisture on my scalp.
I mixed together a carrier oil (2 tablespoons) & lavender (8 to 10 drops) in one bottle.
Benefits of Lavender;
- Aids in relaxation.
- Used as an antiseptic & anti fungal.
- Massage
- Soothe and condition dry flaky scalps.
- Dandruff relief.
- Stimulate the hair follicle and hair growth
I will find some pictures of me before the "Natural Hair Journey" and post those over the week-end.

More Pictures.
The Loc Journey Begins.
Many individuals start loc's in their hair everyday. Why read this blog? Hopefully, I will share something in my journey that may help someone or teach someone. I plan to record the transitions in my hair and more importantly in my life. The reactions others have to my hair, there will be some, because I have had people make comments in the nappy loose stage.
I would like to share my thoughts on this new stage of my life, with you dear reader.
I decided not to count my two-strand twists, because I do not think the number is important. I also deliberately left my scalp area fuzzy (receiving negative comments on that already). I wore my loose hair wild and free when out and I plan to do the same for my loc's. I installed them and I will be maintaining the loc's. Time involved around 3 hours.
Not sure how often I will post pics of my hair, it depends on how my hair is behaving. I do know that I could not leave my hair braided with some what open ends (during my loose hair days) as I would see small knots within 7 days. I guess those are called buds, a good thing from what I have read. So in 2 weeks I hope to have a bud or two. I will tell you that I have been growing my hair for just under 3 years at this point in time. (34 months)
They say the third time is the charm, I sometimes wished I had loc'ed back when I did my second big chop in the summer of 2002 and stayed away from the creamy crack. Until Fall of 2005.
